Speeding >25km in Victoria with QLD at the time

Postby Tanya » Fri Jan 25, 2019 2:09 pm

Good afternoon,

I was apparently caught doing 29km over the limit along the Great Ocean Road in mid-December. At the time, I still had my QLD drivers license. However, I changed to a Victorian license in January.

Does it matter what state your license is actually from at the time of the offense? As I would think that if I was caught speedingly in QLD then it's 4 demerit points with a fine. However, as far as I can tell, even if I still lived in QLD (which is an option), I would still probably lose my license since the traffic offense was in Victoria.

Is that correct?

Or, if I moved to QLD, would I just be looking at losing 4 demerit points instead?

Thanks very much for taking a look at my question.

When you have an interstate licence you suffer all of the penalties that a Victorian would get plus any penalties that Qld will give you. So you get points in each state, and are likely to be banned from driving in each state.
