Hi
I was in an accident that was totally my fault and I was DUI. I have been issued 13 months cancellation and a fine.
I now have two insurance companies after payment to their vehicles, one car a complete write off. I know I have to pay I just don't know how I am going to.
What is the expected/accepted minimum an month and insurer will take. I was hoping to only have to pay the absolute minimum to each company (youi and RACV) but know that's not much and will take years and years to pay off.
Any advice appreciated.

Re: Paying insurance after DUI
There is no minimum.
It is up to the insurer and you to work it out.
Usually they are happy to get anything at all. Any payment they get from you is a bonus on their bottom line cos the cost of the claim has already been factored into premiums they charge.
If you have no assets and no companies, it might be worth considering bankruptcy to clear the debts and start afresh.

My father was cleaned up years ago by a rear smash, the guy who hit him had no insurance, went to court the court told the guy to pay him $5.00 a week. Never saw a cent.
Wonder if we chase him now we can get inflation added on, might be worth tens of thousands now.
